Parking for moving day in Worthing
In Worthing, parking bay suspensions go through Adur and Worthing Councils. The councils say they need at least 5 working days' notice, and they list home removals as a reason to apply. Outside controlled parking zones they charge £45 per 10 metre bay. Inside a controlled zone the same £45 applies, plus £10 a day for each pay and display bay for the first 28 days. Suspensions of up to 14 days are booked online through the councils' digital permits page.
Book the bay as soon as your date is fixed. Five working days goes quickly when a completion date lands on a Thursday afternoon.
Clearing out before you move
Every bag of junk you take to the tip before moving day is time you are not paying movers to carry. West Sussex County Council states that the Worthing Recycling Centre on Willowbrook Road (BN14 8NA) needs a booked slot if you arrive by vehicle, and that Luton type vans are not allowed in. In winter (1 October to 31 March) the site opens 9am to 4pm and is closed on Thursdays. Run your car loads there in the week before we arrive.
Moving between Worthing and Brighton
Moves between Worthing and Brighton and Hove run along the coast road. You pay the same hourly rate for the drive as for the lifting, so a tidy, packed home at both ends keeps the bill down more than anything else.
